2024 Wrap up!

We are incredibly thankful for your time and the energy you put into the program. The feedback from Scholars for 2024 has been extremely positive, and interacting with their Mentors and small group meetings was highlighted as one of the most enjoyable experiences they had. We appreciate the work you put in as volunteers and for mentoring the next generation of Brazilian scientists. Over the years, you have helped over 30 scholars successfully join a PhD program or secure a postbac/research position abroad, and many others start a PhD in Brazil or identify what they want for their careers.

We are kicking off the 2024 Yale-Proxima Mentorship Program!
Onboarding meeting: please fill out this when2meet so we can schedule a meeting to over the program calendar, expectations, and answer any questions you might have.
Dashboard: we have a dashboard! All announcements and relevant information will be shared using our dashboard. If you find any broken links or missing/wrong information please let us know!

2023 feedback and looking ahead

Dear Mentors,
Happy new year! We wish you all an amazing 2024! This will be a transformative year for the program and we are glad to have you with us.
PLEASE READ
Mentorship tracking: please update your mentorship tracking spreadsheet by Friday, Jan 12. Mentees only receive a certificate if they participate in at least 85% of the activities proposed by the program. We need this information to be able to issue certificates. If you have any issues completing this, please email gustavo.santana@yale.edu.
Anonymous Feedback form: thank you if you were able to join us for our feedback meeting in December, we got some great ideas from you for things to improve. Please take some time to put in writing your experiences and feedback for the program using this form. This will be incredibly valuable as we make key changes for the program this year.
Mentoring for 2024: we appreciate you! Thank you for doing an amazing job in 2023 and we hope to have you in 2024. We have some exciting things we will be sharing with you soon about the 2024 edition of the program. Mentorship is a key area we will improve and is a core part of the program. Please use this form to indicate (yes/no/maybe) if you wish to stay as Mentor for 2024. Please complete this by Friday, Jan 12.
Announcements
- Mentorship Dashboard: we are developing a dashboard for mentors to have easy access to resources related to the workshops and for their mentorship meetings. We also have plans for changing how meetings are scheduled and more structured activities for Mentors. This is all intended to help you and your mentees to focus on having productive meetings and interactions, and removing some of the burden of creating content that are placed on Mentors as of today. Another change is that we will have bimonthly emails to keep Mentors updated on everything that is happening in the Program, and to send reminders about planned activities for Mentors. We will be sharing a link to access the Dashboard later this month and ask for feedback.

Welcome to the first bimonthly mentorship email! We are excited to share some news with you.
Announcements
- Mentorship Dashboard: we are developing a dashboard for mentors to have easy access to resources related to the workshops and for their mentorship meetings. We are sharing it with you now as a preview, and will be actively developing it for the 2024 mentorship program. We also have plans for changing how meetings are scheduled and more structured activities for Mentors. Workshops
On November 1 we had the workshop on Successful stories in non-academic careers: Industry with Bruna Paulsen, from Gameto. The workshop was moderated by Valter and mentees: Arthur Enrici, Arthur Coelho, Hugo and Thais. The recording is available on YouTube.
Next Wednesday, Nov 15, at 5:30pm ET, [Marcus][Marcus bio] and his group will be moderating the workshop on Impostor Thoughts with Dr. Ericka Boone! Please join if you are available: Zoom link.
Mentorship
We are approaching the end of the year! (yup). As we gear up for the upcoming year, we want to hear your feedback and learn how we can better support you as mentors. New mentorship dashboard under development

We’re gearing up for an exciting transformation next year! We are developing considerable changes to the mentorship program in a way that cohesively integrates its three core components: Workshops, Mentorship, and Career Development. This novel approach is structured to amplify the coherence and synergy among these pillars. And as you can see, we’re in the process of developing a user-friendly Mentorship Dashboard with resources and announcements. This will streamline access to crucial materials, thereby helping you navigate the program with ease and efficacy.
